Foodtrip: Genki Sushi – BGC Stopover Pavillion, Taguig

After one reaaaaaally challenging day in yoga, a couple of friends and I decided (waaaaay ahead of time, might I add :D) to eat at Genki Sushi at BGC. The reason? The choo-choo train! (This is according to a bunch of us grown women, might I add haha) Since it’s been a while for me to have eaten at a place that is remotely resembling kaizen sushi (i.e. conveyor belt sushi), I was up for it. However, I do have reservations since kaizen sushi isn’t exactly known for their quality. You eat there usually for the experience or if you don’t really mind eating low-grade sushi (based on past visits anyway). So yes, I can be kinda biased in this regard.

Anyway, getting there required us to walk about 15 minutes from the studio. Really far if you’re hurting all over, I tell you!

To be honest, the place was slightly smaller than what I had expected, but it was cozy and clean. Unlike other places, this restaurant is pretty much self-serve, which is quite all right since it cuts down waiting time on all fronts – ordering, getting your order, and getting the bill. Reminds me of Japan 😀

This is where we sat –

See that faucet thing in the middle? It dispenses hot water. So if you want tea, there’s a small case with green tea powder which you put in your own cup, put it under the tap, and voila! You have tea served.

Another thing – you order from a touch screen menu!

Each set of orders can accommodate a maximum of 4 dishes at a time (since the train can only carry so much). Send your order – and be careful; once ordered, you can’t cancel it – wait a little… and it arrives via train!

So cute 😀

To return the train, press the lighted yellow button on the upper/lower right-hand side depending on where the train is.

Didn’t get to picture the other dishes and donburi (hey, we were STARVING lol) so hope you’re ok with just a couple –

The verdict?

For the price point, it was mostly ok though some are obviously fusion. The salmon donburi was passable (more than enough slices for the price!) though it had a little fishy taste that I usually don’t accept when eating salmon sashimi. However, add a dash of wasabi – nice and spicy enough – and soy sauce and it was fantastic!

Will I come back here? If the chance arises, why not? 😀
